Education
Dr. Sofia Karampela is an Economist and Regionalist. She holds a B.A. from
the Department of Economic and Regional Development of Panteion
University, an MSc in “Tourism Planning, Management and Policy” from
the University of the Aegean (Chios), and both a PhD and a Postdoctoral
degree from the Department of Geography of the same University (Lesvos).
Experience – Academic Positions
She possesses extensive teaching experience at both undergraduate and
postgraduate levels in tourism-related subjects, having taught at the
University of the Aegean, the Agricultural University of Athens, the Ionian
University, and AUTh. Prior to her appointment at the Aristotle University of
Thessaloniki (2024), she served as an Assistant Professor at the Department
of Tourism of the Ionian University (2021-2024).

Scientific Work
She has authored numerous scientific articles in international journals and
conferences and actively serves on the scientific and editorial committees of
academic journals and conferences.
Recently, she co-edited the textbook: “An Introduction to Geographical and
Urban Economics: A Spiky World” (3rd Edition), written by Steven
Brakman, Harry Garretsen, and Charles van Marrewijk” (Tziola Publications).
