Short Bio

Professor in Quantitative Methods in Production, Operations, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, at the School of Economic Sciences, Department of Business Administration, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece (since December 2004). Prof. Chrissoleon Papadopoulos’ primary research covers the areas of manufacturing and supply chains: stochastic modeling, analysis, and design/optimization of manufacturing and service/logistics systems. He served for five years as Logistics & Supply Chain Manager at Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) Hellas (now Hewlett-Packard (hp) Hellas).

He has published over 40 journal papers (in IJPR, Operations Research, Naval Research Logistics, EJOR, IJPE, IIE Transactions, C&IE, C&OR, Omega, among others), 3 books (published by Chapman & Hall, 1993 and Springer, 2009, and Sophia Publications, 2015) and 2 edited books (published by Kluwer, 2003 and Springer, 2006), and 1 Chapter in a book published by Springer, 2013, in the area of Stochastic Modeling of Manufacturing and Service Operations (SMMSO) and many international and national Conference papers.

He is invited Associate Editor of the Flexible Services and Manufacturing Journal, invited member of the Editorial Board of the International journals: IJPR, C&IE, Decision Making in Manufacturing and Services, International Journal of Systems Science: Operations & Logistics, and has served as a Department Editor of the IIE Transactions and other journals in Operations Management and Logistics/Supply Chain Management. He is Guest co-Editor in several Volumes/Special Issues in the area of SMMSO of the journal Annals of Operations Research (ANOR), one Volume of IIE Transactions, and one Volume of OR Spectrum and of IJPR.

He has been the founding Organizer/Chair of the Series of International Conferences in the area of SMMSO and has organized the first five Conferences of this Series (1997, 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2005). He has served as Business Consultant and Principal Investigator (PI) of Research Programs (national and European).

RESEARCH AND OTHER PROGRAMS

Prof. Papadopoulos participated in research and industrial projects funded with grants of over 1.900.000 Euros. To name a few:

  • Factory-of-the-Future (FOF): A European research program which funded the writing of the textbook: ``Queueing theory in manufacturing systems analysis and design'', Chapman and Hall (Kluwer Academic Publishers), 1993.
  • A Research Program ``THALES``, entitled: ``Analysis of Supply and Production Systems: An Integrated Approach (ASPASIA)’’ (Principal Investigator, PI/Scientific Co-ordinator: Papadopoulos T. Chrissoleon). Funded with 599.150 Euros (2012-2015) from EU and the National Ministry of Education. In this Program 4 Greek Universities participated and the University of Limerick, Ireland with Prof. Cathal Heavey. In total, 33 researchers (Professors, Masters and Ph.D. students).
  • Various industrial projects with Greek and other European companies in the areas of Production, Quality, Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
